Rockin’ Around The Kitschmas Tree

Ooh, I love a Christmas decoration or two. We usually have a big real tree, but this year, with Syd at uncontrollable grabber/climber age we are going to have to have something smaller and out of reach.

We will make up for it with a shed load of lights.

And decorations wise I stay true-ish to my rockin’ roots! This year my piece de resistance is this silver flamingo- which is delightfully kitsch and I will be teaming it with the glitter skulls that I also purchased from Paperchase.

I have also made some new decorations. Tartan and leopard print are both classic punk rock patterns, but are also very traditionally festive too, and I am delighted with how my stuffed hearts have turned out, and the perfect finishing touch is the tattoo look buttons I bought from eBay a few weeks back.

I made an owl from the scraps. Because I like owls. I like skulls and owls, ‘skowls’ perhaps…. following a debate of more depth than neccessary I decided I do not like ‘Owl Skulls’. Just the two as separate items…

My final homemade contribution is Pom-Poms- made using red and black wool. I tried both techniques. The top photo is the traditional card circle method, the middle is the hand wrap method, and the bottom pic shows however you make ’em you just end up with a row of balls. I have to say the traditional card wrapping method does result in a neater Pom Pom, but does take about 3 or 4 times as long, and I quite like the ‘spikier’ look of the hand wrapped ones, tho a neat freak could trim them to a more uniform look. Shut up about the bleedin’ Pom Poms Cisco and post the photo here..

If I manage to stretch to one more decorative purchase this year then it would have to be this from Rigby and Mac…I LOVE it!

Our tree is going up at the weekend, and I am looking forward to seeing Syds face when he sees all the lights and decorations! Is yours up yet?

Love the Christmas skulls. I keep trying to convince my husband that we need a huge silver alumninum tree like they had in the ’60s. Not this year, but maybe next?
