A year ago today I wrote my first tentative blog post. I wondered if I would find anything to say. I have now written almost 500 posts, so I definitely thought of something! I have grown to love this funny little place, and although I sometimes despair at its unprofessional appearance, and my inablity to write consistently well, I am delighted that I gave blogging a go, I cannot imagine life without it now.
I love the outlet it gives me, the community of friends I have made, and of course you my dear readers! In the past year there have been over 100,000 visits to this site. A number which positively astounds me! Thank you all for coming- I should probably have sorted party bags or something, but I am not that organised, so instead here are some of my most popular posts….
This one about finding the Higgs Boson particle is a funniest post finalist in the Swan Blog Post awards- thank you all of you who put me forward, I am delighted to be in the final few! You can see all the finalists in all the categories here.
My most viewed post of all time is Motherhood and Making a Tit of Yourself. Thank god it isn’t only me! The two posts I have already mentioned are both humorous, as a lot of my posts are, but not always, two further posts in my top ten most read are serious, Grey and Valuable – and both got lots of you commenting, and as always in these cases, the comments are often better than the posts they are on. Thank you to every last one of you who has ever left a comment- they are a huge part of what makes this lark so enjoyable!
I also now write the politics round-up for BritMums, which is truly an honour, and means I have the great joy of reading and compiling the incredible rants and heartfelt political posts from my fellow bloggers every month. The quality of writing in the blogging world is truly ASTOUNDING!
I adore reading other blogs, I have over 50 that I read regularly, and many others I dip in and out of. I have also met some lovely people, and been able to be involved in some brilliant charity work and campaigns, as well as helping to raise awareness of issues. Being able to use my small platform for a little good is another thing that has bought me great pleasure this past year.
Anyway, before this gets all teary and nostalgic, I shall shut the feck up. All I will say is the voting in the Brilliance in Blogging awards is open, and if you fancy giving me the nod in the New Voice category, or any category at all, I would be thrilled!
Right, time to eat some blog birthday cake,
