Simple Pleasures

It is half term, and we had an elaborate plan today, but Syd is under the weather and lurching from calpol high to poorly doom and gloom, so we have settled for a simple picnic. Maumbury Rings is a neolithic henge, later used by the Romans as an amphitheatre. It is five minutes walk from home and the perfect picnic spot is right in the centre of it.

Maumbury Rings
Picnic food can be elaborate and champagne accompanied, or it can be a sarnie and crisps on a bench in the local park. Being a last minute plan our picnic was nearer the latter than the former.

It may only have been sarnie-saurus’s and sweet treats, but the boys loved having lunch out in the fresh air.

After the sandwiches, the boys explored a while. The simple pleasures provided by bubbles and a ball were the only entertainment required!
Then pudding for Syd…
….while Max opted for some hill rolling!
Then time for home.
Perfect.

Love Miss Cisco XXX

Such gorgeous photos and it looks like you had a lovely time. We love picnics and I agree that they don’t have to be anything fancy, it is just being able to get outside and enjoy some family time

Yes, kids dont care about pretty hampers and Cath Kidston plates (altho I would still like them…) They just like the novelty of a sandwich outdoors!!

that looks like such an amazing picnic spot! And such a coincidence because I’ve been on the hunt for cookie cutters today to make cool little sandwiches like your dinosaur ones!

Am liking the amphitheatre! It reminds me of the stone circles I used to love as a child holidaying in the Lake District – but picnics were never suggested in them. I wonder why 🙂

Its a very cool place, and is normally pretty quiet, tho they do have plays and the occassional band in the summer, which I am all for!

Yes, Syd looks pretty cute in that one! It is fab to be able to get out in the sunshine, shame Syd was ill with tonsilitis all week, which curtailed our adventures a bit, luckily he is on the mend today!

Poor Syd, I’m glad the sarnie-sauruses cheered him up a bit! I must see if there are any Neolithic henges close enough to us for picnics, they look like the perfect setting.

Syd can be persuaded to eat most things by cutting them into fun shapes! Star cucumber is another fave!

What a lovely picnic – where did you get those dinosaur cutters from? (and Oreos are yum). X.
