I have been blogging for two years now, and I have blogged from sofas, trains, buses, the dining table, the bath and all manner of places, but I haven’t had a specific place to work as such.
It was always a hobby, but at the beginning of the year I went self-employed and now undertake paid work both on my blog and elsewhere, so it is probably about time I had a slightly more permanent workspace for when deadlines are looming.
I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, we are house hunting currently, so splashing out on the gorgeous wooden vintage writing bureau of my dreams might be a bad move until I know if I have somewhere to put it, so I made do with an old cheapie from Argos that was used by one of my kids.
Hardly very Rock’n’Roll is it? Well, let’s see if I can spruce it up to be a little more fitting!
A few bits and bobs and a second hand upcycled chair later and Ta-Da :-
I love having music on while I work, and my retro style record deck is both fit for the job of letting me rock while I write and utterly gorgeous! The chair is from a local vintage warehouse, and was Β£25, not a bad price, and it is made extra comfortable with a punk rock cushion featuring The Damned.
The cassette tin is a biscuit tin, anyone who has read my blog can tell you I have a biscuit fetish, and I seriously can’t work without a stash nearby. The beautiful china cup would be filled with coffee if I was sat down working. Not only is it pretty, but it is perfect for dunking!
The wall is adorned with my ‘What would Elvis do?’ sign, to inspire me when ideas are lacking, and some flamingo fairy lights, because they are awesome. The shelves under the desk have pictures of my kids, some books by my favourite writers, and Batman holding a bass guitar. Because the only way Batman could be more epic was if he was a bass player. It’s true.
So will you see a vast improvement in my writing now I have somewhere quirky and cool to work? Probably not, but at least I will be happy in the pink flamingo glow, eating my biccies and re-reading some old favs!

I love your desk. I’d love to actually have my own working space. Currently I’m blogging and working from the sofa, but I think I would be so much more productive, if I had a dedicated space to work x

I’m SO jealous! I always blog in the most random of places – but I might just have to think about making myself a more permanent base – mainly so I can justify visiting my local vintage shop on the pretext of sourcing a gorgeous chair like yours! xx
