My middle child, my eldest boy, turns eleven today. Happy Birthday Max, my wonderful son!
I am loving this age. He is so clever, a joy to converse with, an amazing vocabulary and interesting and informed opinions. Quite vociferous opinions at times. ( I cannot imagine where he gets that trait from *whistles nonchalantly)
Always full of ideas for writing, drawing and inventing. Always about games really, but occasionally pushed by school to use his writing talents for other subjects. I love this poem he wrote for his homework this week…
Autumn leaves float slowly,
like burning embers in the moonlight,
to the soft and rough
leaf littered carpet.
Left and right they drift slowly
creating kite like patterns as they fall,
Crispy Yellow, Red and brown.
The chilly breeze brushes the bushes
whilst the trees sway slowly,
Through the leaves comes slight sunlight,
slicing through the dark curtain.
Winters coming around the corner,
the dusty darkness soon turns to bright white snow,
The leaves have left,
coldness covers the hills.
I know I am his Mum, but I thought that was quite beautiful, and such mature writing for his age. He is lovely my boy, his heart is big, and he is the best big brother to Syd. He keeps himself entertained a lot these days, but is not yet beyond hugs and telling me he loves me. It is a perfect age I think – none of the manicness of tiny child, yet none of the attitude of a teenager….yet.
We are having Minecraft cake later, of course, and he has a brand new laptop of his very own to set up and play with – no more having to wait for me to finish a job on this here blog before he can get creating new worlds or writing new books. I love my special big boy – here’s to a wonderful year of being 11!
