Feeding the blackbirds.

We went for a very frosty walk yesterday. Bobble hatted and gloved we wandered by the river, Syd clutching a bag of bread for the ducks. The ducks had found somewhere warmer to hang out, the pub perhaps, and so we took to scattering crumbs for the tiny hedge dwelling birds that we could hear tweetering their chilliness. We watched as a few scurried over to nab a morsel, then we turned to wander along the path.

Looking over our shoulders a moment later we discovered a flock of blackbirds had swooped down for a feast. Syd was delighted by them. We paused to examine the frost, taking in the delicate stands of crystalline patterns, spent a moment studying the berries, then pottered our way home before hypothermia set in. Lovely to get out for a bit of fresh air, but lovelier still to be home by the fire afterwards!

And today we wake to a New Year – welcome to the future y’all – may it be filled with joy and hover boards,

So lovely to get outdoors even if the weather was a little chilly, I’m sure those blackbirds were thankful for the bread.

I have to admit that I hibernate when it is cold but I should remember that the children love being outdoors, whatever the weather! Thank you for the reminder of doing the simple things.

It is lovely to be able to get outdoors with the little ones – so they can use up some of their boundless energy! Especially as the cold but dry days are few and far between! Lovely photos 🙂 xx #countrykids
