Oh You Pretty Things – Love

Welcome to this weeks Oh You Pretty Things, this week is all about the Love, and Keynko and I would love you to link up below!

Now I don’t actually do Valentines Day, but that doesn’t mean I am lacking in romance, just that I prefer it spontaneous rather than prescribed. Romance comes in many different ways – I remember being really touched once that an ex, without being asked, took my broken specs to be mended because he knew I was too busy – that is romance. My bloke buys me flowers from time to time, not for an occasion or an anniversary, just because he feels like it that day – that is romance.

This week is about showing the items in your house that remind you of love – now that may be a piece of jewellery or a soft toy, or it may be a ticket stub or a champagne cork. What do you keep about to remind you of your love?

love letters

In our early days, before we lived together, my other half used to sometimes send me things in the post – a CD he thought I would like, or once a ghettoblaster when I had no stereo briefly. These things were accompanied by notes, and I kept them. In my knicker drawer. Clean knickers obvs, I mean who has a dirty knicker drawer except those with peculiar fetishes.

ticket board

Tickets for shows we have been to together, or wristbands from festivals. These are all on a big pinboard in our kitchen and on a day when life seems all about the dirty dishes, these remind me of more rock’n’roll times spent together.

A Ring

Not an engagement ring, or a wedding ring. Neither of us have any particular desire to go down that route, but a ring containing the birth stone of our son – a person who binds us far more than any document could. It is the only piece of jewellery I wear daily, and I only remove it for messy cooking tasks.

So there are just three of the little things that remind me of our love – of course really our house is filled with reminders. What little things have you kept as romantic tokens? We would loved to see them and if you fancy writing about them you can link up below,

What a lovely post, we still have a shoebox in our wardrobe that contains many things from our early courting days 20 years ago….We even have a cigarette lighter from our old Mini and the first flower he ever got me. Thank you fro sharing xxxx

Those are lovely things! I’m wondering what we have. After nearly 22 years together, it’s pretty much everything we own! Strangely my cars are important ones – the Beetle was my 30th birthday present. He tried to keep it a secret, but I found out beforehand, it’s not an easy thing to keep secret! Even though it’s ‘dead’ now, I won’t let it go and it’s living out its final days on the drive, with a Mini to keep it company! Another thoughtful gesture from my husband who knew I would only drive a car that is yellow and has character!

Until quite recently I still had the wedding toppers (man and wife in football kits) from the top of our wedding cake in a box somewhere!! Now I’m going through a massive clearout so I guess my jewellry is one of the few things I’ll always hold on to and treasure x

Ah this is sweet. I came across some little love notes the other day actually, just silly I love you type things that we posted in our early years. Most things have been shoved away somewhere and have been forgotten about during the four kids and lots of arguing later! Sad really. Really should display some of them like you do x

I’m all about spontaneous romance too. I sometimes get sucked in to the commercial side of things but I try very hard to make sure thats not only time I am romantic.

Hubby keeps tickets too – I find it odd. He has a box full of old chelsea match tickets……..I used to hoard stuff but now I tend to bin things I won’t use again as we just don’t have the room

I love to keep old love notes and cards – I store cards every year that mean something to me. I’m a huge memory lane walker. We used to keep our tickets to see the Manics but now it makes me sad to realise I won’t be going again for quite some time!
