Snap Happy

My daughter, Betsy, has got right back into her love of photography lately, and I have to admit I have been enjoying a dabble too. I upgraded my cheap point and shoot for a Nikon 1 a couple of months back – too scared to go for a full DSLR. Initially we had to share, but she has now splashed out on a proper Canon DSLR with some money she was left by my grandfather.

She is experimenting with all sorts of techniques, and it is usual to find the house strewn with props, or huge sheets of white paper pegged to the washing line for her latest shoot. Yesterday she was playing with lights and silver foil, looking to create a bokeh effect for some still life shots – and well, I interfered by joining in the fun too. Note to the teen: If you don’t want your Mum joining in, do it in your room not in the lounge!! Her shots are gorgeous and you can see them on her blog, Peppermint Swirls! But for now, here are mine….

Not bad for an idiot I thought!! Let me know if you have any ideas for having fun with photography that we can try out,

Love Miss Cisco XXX

The best way to learn with photography is to just keep practising and trying out new things! You really do end up improving, and I know that when I first started taking photos more “seriously” back in 2010, they, looking back are so pants compared to what I can do now. And I’ve not changed my camera at all – I’ve just got more skilled at knowing what to do! I do love bokeh, I need a DSLR so that I can make shaped bokeh – that trick doesn’t work on my bridge, no matter how many times I try!!

Lovely that you are playing together with photography, I always learn loads more with others to bounce ideas off. Beautiful pics – so vibrant.

Someone once told me that to take good pictures you have to be patient and keep trying until you like the shot you have taken. I love your pictures of the flowers. I am always taking pictures too and sometimes, the results are good and other times – I have rushed them…

That Kilner jar is superb!!! I love it. I am getting into photography too and constantly looking at buying “props”.

I love your comment about doing it in her room if she doesnt want you to join in!! That is what would be happening in this house too.

Might have go and get some foil out now and have a go myself.

Ooh – I love this and I always love your pics. I need to up the ante with my pictures. I tend to rely way too much on my i-phone as it’s the thing I always have with me! x

Love the effect you’ve got there! I don’t to play with my camera as much as I’d like to sadly, really do need to make more effort!

Your photos look beautiful. It must be nice to share the same passion as your daughter, you can do so much together.
