Some Nonsense About The Nonsense That Is Aspiration

I aspire to have all the money for myself,
f**k your kids and the national health.

I aspire to have a better place,
work harder, longer,
never see my child’s face.

I want a coffee machine that talks,
A dog too small for walks,
A car that parks itself
I only care about myself

If you don’t aspire for the same
Then I won’t take the blame
If you find cupboards bare
I won’t be the one to care.

Remember when aspirations were for more than riches
Well that won’t get you far now bitches
Love don’t make the world go round
Kindness doesn’t pay in pounds.
Mr Greedy is the winner
Mr Happy’s getting thinner.

And while our bank accounts grow fat
With unpaid tax and all of that
We can sit in luxury towers
Not caring about starving others.

Bollocks to all of the above.
Me?! I’m still about the love.
Share and care and fair and square’s
Not hoard it all without a care

Aspirations should be nobler,
than getting a new DFS sofa (in the sale that’s ending soon…)

I aspire for joy and beauty and freedom and equality and learning and failing all that I can always buy me an aspirational lifestyle on my brand new anarchy credit card. Never mind the APR mate.

aspiration sham

That last bit doesn’t rhyme. This section of my blog is called crap poetry for a reason. I hate politicians using the word aspiration to mean solely aspiring to having more money and bigger mortgages. What happened to just aspiring to be happy eh?!

What do you aspire to?

I am absolutely with you; what is wrong with aspiring to be happy or content? Surely that is what is most important? You know what? I’ve not got a pot to piss in financially and yet I am the most content I’ve been in years. So sod you politicians.

Yeah I think it’s all about love of family and friends. Because you can have everything but still have nothing. And life will pass you by sat in your ivory tower on your new sofa! Love the line about dogs too small for walks!

Or aspiring to make the world a better place, by making a real difference to people’s lives: corny as that sounds, that’s what I always wanted to do, and now my eldest daughter is saying the same.
