Ooh it is time for a little look both backwards and forwards as the year comes to a close. How is it almost New Year? – I am barely used to it being 2015 and it is gone. (Not to mention the fact I recently wrote the date and started with a 19- , really, where are the years going?!) I am sticking to the same format as I did last year, and the year before, so here we are, my 2015 in 880 words!
Weight wise, nowt. Nothing lost, nothing gained. Which I am a little disappointed about as I had assumed the 5 miles a day walking that Syd starting school bought about might shake a few pounds. Turns out I just upped my biscuit quota to balance it out. January I am going to tackle it, I would really love to lose somewhere between 7 and 14 pounds to get back to my happy weight.
A cat. Not my cat, sadly one of the downsides of being a renter is you can’t really have a pet – it narrows your options too much when you need to move. A neighbour got a kitten a few months back and she seems to have somewhat adopted us. I am assuming they work and she likes company so appears at our back door and knocks to get in. I have a strict ‘no feeding’ her rule as I am totes aware she isn’t ours and don’t want to encourage her to think she actually lives here, but me, and especially the kids, love her to bits and look forward to her frequent visits.
Still doing bits and bobs of paid work here on the blog, but have realised that it is unlikely to be enough in the long term so am starting an OU course in January with view to getting qualified to do something a bit more rewarding and a bit better paid when I re-enter the job market fully.
At the moment a small inheritance is bridging the gap between our incomings and outgoings allowing me to be home for the kids still, and that is SO important to me while Syd is still so little. I love that I get to do the school runs and am here if he is poorly or there is an inset day. Equally I do find it a bit lonely and a bit boring now he is at school and I do look forward to working again one day. If only I could find one of those mythical term time, school hour jobs it would be perfect.
We have managed a few more nights away as a couple this year, which is ace. And I have snuck in a couple of weekends away with mates. And I have played a lot of Minecraft, yet still don’t really understand it.
We moved last March and I love our new house. At the moment we are in that limbo phase of waiting to see if we can extend our 12 month lease when it runs out, fingers crossed as I really cannot face going through the whole palaver again so soon.
This year we returned the ever magnificent Camp Bestival as our family holiday. It is awesome, I urge you all to go next year. I also snuck in a return visit to Exeter where I saw my band of 2015 – The Sleaford Mods – play. And I made a trip to London with my best mate to see the Elvis exhibition – pink Cadillacs of joy, utterly brilliant it was!
I am 42 now, my other half turns 50 at the end of January. It is weird this aging thing, I still look about for a proper adult when things get tricky, before remembering it is me these days. I still feel like a teenager on rare nights out watching a live band. But the creaking when I stand up is getting worse.
The kids are alright. Betsy started uni, Syd started school, Max continued his path through middle school. They continue to be both awesome and annoying, brilliant and baffling and I adore them all. I have struggled with the changes this year has brought – letting go is bloody hard and there have been tears these past few months, but that goes with the parenting job innit.
Is gone. No regrets – all that has happened has led me to here, and here right now is under a roof with the four people I love most in the world.
Yeah, some ace ones in the last few days thanks. You?
2016 is to be my fresh start in a way. I have allowed my sadness – at my eldest flying the nest to uni and my youngest no longer being a baby – to colour my mood since September. Now I am determined to see the fact they are both thriving in their new environments as a proud achievement and start to look forward to what is next for me. First the aforementioned Open University course, only an access course at first, see if this old dog is capable of learning any new tricks. But if it goes well, who knows!
Here is wishing you an amazing 2016,
Happy New Year,
Love Miss Cisco XXX
