After seemingly endless grey days, the sun decided to pay a much overdue visit yesterday. Determined to make the most of it we headed out for an adventure at Tout Quarry Sculpture Park on Portland. Formerly a working stone quarry, it has been turned into a stone sculpture park.
The 260-year-old quarry workings were last worked in 1982. Portland Sculpture & Quarry Trust began the sculpture park in 1983 – a year later – with artists residencies, where well known and emerging artists created both temporary and permanent work in response to the labyrinths and gullies of quarry workings within the 40 acre site.
It is an amazing place to visit – the sculptures are both interesting and beautiful, it is a great place for kids to use their imagination based on the creations around them, you can spot a variety of flora and fauna and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the incredible views over Chesil Beach and out to sea.
Here are just a few of my hundreds of snaps:-
Such a great place for a visit with the family, and even better it is completely free – find more info here . Plus you can follow it up with a trip down the hill to the famous Chesil Beach – more on that tomorrow,
