Hello. I am not here. Obviously. I am studying for my new OU course. Except that I am here, because I am easily distracted. Since I sat down an hour ago the most productive thing I have done is this….
And they are SO right. A highlighter pen came in very useful for highlighting the sentence ‘a highlighter pen will also come in useful’. Then, tickled by my own wit at the above, obvs I had to share it on social media. And rightly nobody gave a toss, because frankly it is puerile at best, pointless at worst, and I still haven’t moved onto the next paragraph.
Oh, but I can’t move onto the next paragraph yet. Because just above the highlighter bit was a bit about the importance of making good notes and the necessity of having a notebook. So I spent an hour browsing on Paperchase, because not just any notebook will do. It must be pretty, and inspiring and have a coordinated pen so I can show them off on instagram.
I am also concerned about my ‘work space’. My book clearly recommends having one, and currently it is the kitchen table – less than ideal perhaps. I could set up a desk area in the teenagers bedroom, her room is much under used while she is away at university. So of course I have also spent time this morning on Pinterest, browsing at pretty desk set-ups.

What I haven’t done this morning is much studying. If only there was a course in prevarication or displacement activity – I would totally rock that, if I got round to signing up for it that is. I am probably slightly anxious about getting started, so am hiding in the belief that the right notebook and the perfect desk will make it more manageable.
The silly thing is I actually want to do the course. I think probably I will be fine once I leap in, but standing here on the precipice of chapter 1 is a bit daunting. What if my brain doesn’t work? What if my twitter addiction means I can no longer cope beyond 140 characters? What if my brain is tooooo sleepy and muddled with old middle age to manage deep thought any more? What if it turns out I am actually a bit thick?
Well, it is time to find out. I am turning the page and getting on with it….until I come across something else that I simply MUST share on social media that is….
wish me luck,
Love Miss Cisco XXX
Oh my goodness this could have been written about me!! I am studying an OU course just now and it is amazing how I find time to search the internet for stationary for the course rather than do the reading/studying. I am half way through my first module and my time planning is getting worse lol, naughty me
Just get on with it!!!
This could also have been written about me! If it isnt highlighted it isnt important!
Good luck with your studies… I am hoping there were no more social media distractions today x

Oh how exciting! The best bit about starting study surely must be the new stationery?
What are you studying?

Stick an egg timer on, worked for me, and then procrastinate after 25 mins for 5 mins and repeat. My brother introduced me to facebook while I was doing my OU course, haven’t forgiven him! Good Luck, this made me laugh, great post x

Good luck Sonya. Sounds like you’re going to need it 😉 You’ll be brilliant. Believe in yourself. Oh and make another coffee xxx
I keep looking at my first assignment and haven’t started yet. I know it won’t take me long but I just need that final kick up the bum. Good luck, you will rock it!

Good luck! That first step is always the hardest and I’m sure you will be absolutely fine once you’ve done it. If ever I’m worried about an article I have to write, I just write the headline and first paragraph and even if I end up changing them later that’s usually enough to get things flowing!

Good luck lovely, I have no idea how I’d get anything done… I’m far to distracted by social media.

Oh Sonya I positively howled at this and got some strange looks in the waiting room of the surgery. I highlighted the exact same sentence last year! I can spend hours on Pinterest dreaming up pretty workspaces despite the fact I have to make do with the dining table or my table.

Oh best of luck with the studies! Social media is so distracting isn’t it and don’t get me started on Paperchase, I love that place! Here’s to that focused workplace 🙂
I can totally understand the need for the right stationery before starting.

I’m considering doing a course online but I’m so easily distracted that I’m not sure I’d ever complete it.
Good luck with it x x

You are hilarious and I do hope you managed to move on from that page since, lol! This is one of the reasons I am very determined to not go back to “school” now, as I know myself and I know I would be worse than you!xx
