Tattooed Eggs and an Astroturf Bunny

So Easter is almost here, I know this because yesterday I tattooed some eggs. Yes, you read that right. One of my favourite quirky easter things to do is to decorate eggs with temporary tattoos. I have done it with real eggs in the past, but this year I used plastic ones so I could use them as decorations. And I think they turned out nicely!

The great thing about this decorating technique is it is quick, effective and a crafting idiot (me) can manage it. I used some lovely vintage tattoo designs for a rockabilly look – but of course temporary tattoos come in a vast variety of styles – you could do dinosaurs or superheroes or princesses to fit in with your kids taste, or there are some beautiful florals around. If you have forgotten how these work, it is as simple as placing design down on the egg then pressing down on the backing paper with a damp cloth for a couple of minutes until the magic has happened. I then glued some ribbon onto the eggs for hanging. (A glue gun would have been ideal – I don’t have one so made do with super strength pritstick!). They look pretty and I am happy with them!

I don’t go mad with Easter decorations, but I do like to add the odd little bit of kitsch joy to the house. Apart from the small wooden tree displaying my tattooed eggs, I also have this rather cure Astroturf bunny (an amazon bargain at a couple of quid!) and a small string of felt egg bunting. That is my lot for this year!

I get a bit confused by Easter traditions too. Do you do the Easter Bunny thing? I have done it in the past, and it backfired when one of my daughters friends asked in a desperately sad voice ‘Why doesn’t the Easter Bunny visit me?’. Um. Er. I had to admit it was me. To which my own daughter replied in horror ‘Father Christmas is real though isn’t he?’. Um. Er. ‘Yes. Without doubt.’ Phew. Got away with that one. Since then I have kind of fudged the issue a bit. Some years I have involved the Easter Bunny, some years I haven’t. I can never remember what I have said about him. Why isn’t their a clear Easter Bunny back story like with Santa?!?

I have cut down on the number of eggs for the kids this year too – mostly as I recently discovered last years leftovers in a cupboard – they just had too many and then they got forgotten about. My folks have given them a bit of money instead, I have got them one each and a few small ones to hide – and that will be more or less it, bar the odd gift from Aunties and Uncles.

We will no doubt have a roast, like we do most Sundays. We will take advantage of the long weekend to catch up with some family and then I shall have to try to think of ways to keep everyone entertained in the soggy looking holidays!

Hope you have a lovely Easter weekend however you spend it,

Love Miss Cisco XXX

I love the fuzzy bunny! I wouldn’t ever have thought about putting the transfer tattoos on eggs. I was trying to work out how much I wanted paint everywhere when the kids did their eggs, I think this would actually work out much less messy for us! We tend to say no eggs/chocolate as gifts as one year we had eggs till Christmas and it was too much. We buy the eggs and people are free to send cards and other gifts if they like. Works out so well, just the right amount of chocolate for us all! I’ve got a joint of lamb with my name on it this year, truly cannot wait to start the cooking on Sunday. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

I saw the photo before I read the text and I thought – wow, those look like tattoos! What a great and effective idea- this is how a rock chick does Easter!

Those eggs are honestly the coolest I have EVER seen, and I’ve seen a lot of easter eggs in my time. Brilliant idea and so effective. Would work very well for teens (though I guess my daughter would still want chocolate afterwards…..)

Yes, am totally with you on the confusing easter bunny story. I’m a bit bah humbug about it all usually but girls are so excited that I have bought an egg too many and now have to plan a house egg hunt with clues. Sigh. 😉

The tattooed eggs are an amazing idea! They look really good.
I am also a bit confused by the Easer bunny! Have lots of questions to answer.
I love Easter – getting together with family and eating chocolate X
    Happy Easter

The eggs look very rock n roll, just like you! The Easter Bunny thing is a bit fudged in this house too

I love your green bunn and your tattoed eggs look brilliant.

We don’t do Easter Eggs as they get wasted but we do a daft easter bunny hunt with some chocolate bunnies usually x

The eggs look very cool. The Easter Bunny story made me laugh… I never know what I ‘ve either so I might mention the bunny or I might not. My kids aren’t particularly interested in it anyway! I only bought one egg each too and a few small ones for the ‘hunt’ x
