The Garden In April

Hooray for the glorious sunshine and warmer weather that is making occasional visits in between the rain clouds. Hooray for having a garden in which Syd can romp and jump and run and wave big sticks around in. Hooray for sneaking out there when everyone else is briefly distracted and drinking my coffee on the bench, while the birds sing their songs and feather their nests. Boo for the neglect of the garden over winter, the overgrown borders, the deadheads still in situ, the weeds and the brambles – for as I notice them I know they need work.

On the other hand I rather like the overgrown-ness, the dark corners in which primroses still manage to bloom. It feels like the kind of garden where fairies might drink boozy nectar and indulge in naughtiness in the bushes. The shrubs are tipped with hints of new leaves and the bulbs we planted at the tail end of the year are starting to bloom. The garden in April is a lovely thing.

Gorgeous photos. The back garden brings so much joy at this time of year. We’ve not much in ours as we have a drainage problem that needs sorting. So currently we have a swamp!

I love April gardens too – but I’m not a fan of all the work which needs doing in a garden!

Lovely photos! Reminds me a lot of our garden.
My husband and sons are on a massive project down one side of the garden – smashing stuff up, moving stuff and sowing grass seed – but the other side is suddenly looking rather overgrown with weeds (again!) with a few spring flowers and new leaves peeping through.

Such beautiful pictures. I may not have a garden but walking around and seeing the daisies and the daffodils starting to grow makes me so happy
