The Fracking Game and Other Ponderings.

I watched the chap from Cuadrilla on TV this morning discussing fracking plans and I must admit to being less than impressed. It seems there is a consensus it will do little to tackle climate change, or bring bills down. He also said that the reserves will last between 20 and 40 years. That means Syd will still be relatively young when that too runs out. Seems to me that money would be better spent on longer term green solutions.

Jenga blocks

As for safety, I may not be an Environmental expert, but I have played a lot of Jenga. If you keep removing blocks from the bottom of the tower, the rest of the tower wobbles and eventually falls. That is a little bit scary when you apply that analogy to the Earth’s crust. Now I am aware that brick based family games qualify me in the Earth sciences no more than playing Operation makes me a doctor. But still I worry a bit.

Let’s build more wind farms – I personally am not offended by them visually as much as I am offended by the country sliding into a pit of magma. Tidal power too, we must be able to nab a lot of that, being an island and all. I mentioned the other day about my Other Half’s suggestion of orbiting solar panels, yes there are flaws, but I was playing Monopoly the other day and now I own an electric company, and we will be looking into it, just as soon as I win enough money in a beauty contest to pay for it! Solar power is under utilised, let’s get some more of that. And why hasn’t anyone invented rain power yet? We could have raked it in these past few weeks.

Monopoly electric company

A new untapped source of energy occurred to me while watching the few minutes of The Big Benefits Row that I could stomach before the Currie induced heartburn became too much. We should invent a way to power stuff though bluster and self-importance, and if the power of not listening and changing the subject can harnessed, the dwellers of Westminster alone could light up the world.

Seriously, don’t mess with what you don’t fully understand for short-term gain, for the long-term result could be far worse than the lights going out.
