Listography: Top 5 Simple Pleasures

Am delighted that Kate at Kate Takes 5 has resurrected Listography. I have always enjoyed writing to a prompt, especially as even I sometimes run out of things to say. This weeks theme is Simple Pleasures, and here are mine.

1) Bread and Proper Butter

The bread should be fresh, white and crusty, and slathered with more butter than is entirely necessary. It must be proper butter, because I can believe that the other stuff isn’t the real thing. If only allowed one food for the rest of my life it would be this. I have shocked you haven’t I – you thought it would be biscuits…well, they would be next, and a nice bit of cheese too, while you are there.

2) Noisy Rock’n’Roll

Nothing lifts a grey day, or indeed any sort of a day, more than listening to a bit of raucousness, loud. Down and dirty rock’n’roll all the way for me please.

3) A Good Book

I love reading. I have too many books, and find it hard to part with anything I have read and loved. When I am old you will find me in the last remaining uncluttered corner of a rambling house that is crammed with books in every available space, and I will be in an armchair, under a blanket, reading a good book, oblivious to the chaos that surrounds me.

4) A Giggle

A proper, tears and all laughter moment is such a bloody awesome thing, even if you run the risk of needing to change your pants afterwards. And in life you really have got to laugh, but….

5) A Rant

A rant can be just as good. We have them in front of Question Time and Newsnight regularly. We don’t really come to any world-changing conclusion, but the act of ranting at the ridiculous politicians does make me feel better, as does throwing shoes at the telly.

That’s mine, what are yours?

I am loving the title of this listography, I have so many simple pleasures! I agree on nearly all of yours but am afraid I cannot agree on the butter – can’t bear it!

Bread and proper butter, yeahhh! Even more of a guilty pleasure since I found out I have a slight wheat allergy, but brilliant all the same.
Mine is definitely bad music: think Busted, B*Witched… YEAH!!

Hooray! Listography is back! I love your choices and reading is definitely one of my simple pleasures. I think my list would have to also include a bath – I never find the time for them (don’t worry we have a shower) but they are such a luxury

Yes, yes, yes! These indeed are all good for the soul (and I do enjoy reading your rants, although I would have framed that more as ‘insightful political opinion’).

I am glad to see that your bookshelves look much like ours. One of my friends colour & size-codes her books, and it looks beautiful, but I am destined never to achieve that kind of order in my life!

Great list, I agree with all of them. I think the last point is essential in life it stops you going mad and probably avoiding a heart attack at some point later on down the line!!!
I think mine is sitting in the sun, indoors at this time of year and maybe even nodding off for a few minutes or maybe 10!! ๐Ÿ™‚

As I read through, I was nodding, yes, yes, oh yes… do love me some bread and butter – proper butter like you said. I remember big thick slices of bread, toasted on a fork in front of my nan’s electric fire and then slathered with butter!

Some great choices. I would have clean bedding and PJs after a soak in the bath as one of my top ones, and listening to really cheesy music!

Bread and butter, what a fab one. Toast and real butter for me. The others made me smile, I could have predicated you’d say those. Mich x

mmmm…. bread and butter and a good book one night, followed by dancing to proper rock and roll another. That would be a great weekend!

I think mine might be nearly all the same as yours. No. 1 here is too good for my liking what with all the fresh pretzels. Unfortunately for me, they cut them in half and slather them in butter too… So good, but sooo bad! ๐Ÿ˜€

Ooh yes nice fresh bread with proper butter, that has to be one of the nicest things. I am a huge fan generally of simple food. Great choices I was nodding along as I read.

I am so on board with the bread and butter. We just went out to get a special dinner treat tonight and I had to stop myself from eating up my sons leftover fresh bread and slather it in butter. I just about managed it, but I still have my eye on it for breakfast time.

As for my simple pleasures, my number one would have to be the view of fields and hills from my house. I stare happily out of the windows every day.

Butter is essential on fresh, soft, but crusty bread *seriously drooling now*. Love a great belly laugh, but can’t be bothered with a rant these days, although DH would join you in ranting at QT and Newsnight!

Nothing beats a giggle! I don’t do real butter though. It’s so rich and I hate spreading it. I always break the bread…

The bread and real butter is top of my list, in fact a butter sandwich to be more accurate there’s so much butter on it! And books, maybe a bit of chocolate added in for balance!

Oh my, proper butter and crusty white bread….you can probably imagine how much I’m craving this right now after being on slimming world for a year and half and not having white bread often, if at all! I think I can count on one hand how many times I’ve had bread and butter in the past year and it’s not nearly enough!

Fabulous choices and I’d definitely agree with books, music and giggling, but would change bread and butter for chocolate and having a rant for bottles of wine!
