I usually think that quizzes, like “What’s Your Celebrity Home Style?” from Victoria Plumb, are going to be wrong. But after answering the questions about homes and style it came up with the answer that I like kind of quirky, a little bit cool and verging on geek chic style for my home. It also compared me to Jess from New Girl. I like that bit a lot, I dream of owning her fringe…..
We live in rented accommodation, so for us it is all about making it our own with stuff rather than wall colours, but I think that quiz result is pretty spot on.
Quirky. Yes, hands up to that one! I don’t suppose many people have a pink wig wearing, newspaper covered mannequin head in their kitchen, or is it more common than I thought?
A bit Cool? Well, that is rather in the eye of the beholder, but I think we have some pretty cool stuff. Vintage gig posters, retro record decks, um, rather too many guitars and musical instruments of one kind or another.
Geek chic. Well, I can’t vouch for chic, but we have collections of toys and memorabilia, so I can definitely do geek, as demonstrated below…
1) My Hawaiian patterned lamp and glitter flamingo have recently been joined by a Hula Girl my lovely mate brought me back from San Francisco.
2) Green Day dolls, vinyl box sets, picture discs, an Adam Ant annual and a plastic banana signed by Captain Sensible. Oh and Oscar from Sesame Street. And other assorted crap/treasure.
3) The King.
4) Doctor Who toys. Oh yes. I love the Doctor.
5) Glorious shelf of utter nonsense. The Kenneth Williams talks. Various TV show bits and bobs, chattering teeth, and special coke bottles are amongst the items nestled on this packed and dusty shelf. I NEED a glass display cabinet!!
One thing we definitely do not do is minimal! We are house hunting currently, and decent size rooms is top of our list of musts, we keep meaning to de-clutter, but when you are hoarders like us, each object is a treasured memory, hard to put out with the rubbish!
What is your style?
