Our House – The Kitchen

Some of you have kindly asked to see some pics of our new abode – am starting with the kitchen, because I am a little bit in love with it, and because it is one room that doesn’t still have unpacked boxes in it!

I love how light this room is, and I adore the colour they have painted the cabinets – my one bug bear is if it was mine I would have popped a wall cupboard up as storage is a little on the low side!

kitchen diner

We are really enjoying having a dining area in the kitchen – our flat had the dining table in the lounge and we had got into bad habits – things charging all over it, the telly on while everyone ate, laptops open at meal times – all of this has been banished (hopefully for good) as we now sit down in a separate room to all the electronics to eat!  I am also delighted to have a big dresser to show off my Grandparents tea/coffee sets, as well as our own bits and bobs of ephemera.

boots by the back door

And I love that the room has doors straight out into the garden – Syd’s wellies are a permanent feature by the back door, so he can pop them on and head outside whenever he fancies.

washing up window

I love the view from the sink and have even been washing up more often – let’s hope that is a habit I keep up when the new house novelty wears thin!

kids in the kitchen

The kitchen is getting some good use by the teenager too – something about it has set her off on a baking mission and we have had batches of fresh cakes and cookies regularly in the past fortnight – no good for my diet but very tasty! Sometimes she even lets her little brother help! Just look at these Oreo Cupcakes she whipped up yesterday – yum! – you can find the recipe on her blog here.

So yeah, um, this is a bit of a smug ‘look at my beautiful house’ kind of a post isn’t it… sorry about that – I promise that the bin is already overflowing and while writing this I had to stop three times to referee fights between the boys – life is never as perfect as the pictures – but at the moment it is pretty damn close!

Your kitchen is beautiful! I love how the cornicing on the units mirrors the dresser. Major envy! I am struggling to get used to our new kitchen, the units don’t make sense to me but we’ll have to live with them until the money fairy visits!

Oh wow! Brilliant! So happy to see you in and settled after so much stress finding the right place. That kitchen is lovely, and the whole place looks really light and airy.

Do you know Rachel Khoo the TV chef that did the little paris kitchen? She has an absolutely tiny kitchen, she can literally touch all four walls standing in one place, so it might be worth having a nosey through the pictures in one of her books to see if you get any ideas for handy storage solutions since you haven’t got an overhead cupboard xx

Wow, your kitchen is stunning! When I saw the first pic, before I started reading, I assumed it was going to be a ‘I wish I had a kitchen as beautiful as this’ kind of post, not that you actually had that kitchen!

That kitchen is LUSH! Having just done ours I know all too well the difference a nice kitchen makes – makes you want to be in there more, cook more as a family and just makes life much nicer.
SO PRETTY! I want to see the rest of the house now!

Your kitchen is beautiful – I love the detailing on the cupboards. I think they have not gone for the wall cupboards to give it a cleaner look, but I’m with you on the need for cupboard space. I also like that your dresser echoes the lines of your kitchen

Your kitchen is really similar to mine, same layout and similar style, so obviously I love it. We have cream cupboards at the moment, but after seeing yours I’m considering painting the olive.
