Bedroom Inspiration

We are mostly settled into our new house now, the kitchen is gorgeous, the lounge is lovely, the kid’s bedrooms are ace. Our bedroom is a dumping ground for the boxes we haven’t managed to unpack yet.

But I have plans for it….making plans and browsing for pretty stuff is SO much more fun than unpacking boxes I find! We rent, so I don’t want to spend money on stuff that we can’t take with us if the worst happens and we have to move on in a year – so for me it is all about the accessories rather than the wall colour – which is luckily white anyway, so pretty much a blank canvas.

One way to give your bedroom a fresh look is new bedding. I am loving all the highly patterned duvet covers that are around at the moment, especially the botanicals, so fresh for spring. But, our room came with curtains and blinds already fitted – the curtains are multi coloured patchwork, which I was initially unsure of, but am actually quite liking now! And the blinds are bottle green. As we have two huge virtually floor to ceiling windows I am loathe to splash out on expensive window treatments so will fit the rest of the scheme around them.

With such busy curtains I am torn between staying very plain with duvet covers and maybe just adding personality with a couple of patterned cushions – or just going for it with big country flower prints! Have collected together some of my favourites on this Pinterest board.

We have huge built-in wardrobes with folding doors, and some built-in drawers and low cupboards too. While loving the storage they provide, they do have a touch of the seventies about them, but I think something as simple (and cheap) as new handles on the doors would really improve that.

So far we only have a photographic canvas of Syd on the wall, but I would like to buy an Yvonne Coomber print for above the bed – I think the beautiful florals will reflect similar in the curtains and pull together a nice country look for the room.

And of course we need lighting for bedtime stories – we have an Ikea bug light at the moment, which Syd loves, but leaves us squinting at the words, so I would love to get a gorgeous or quirky lamp for the bedside table to add more light and to satisfy my grown up urge for pretty lighting. (Um – have you seen some of your choices Miss Cisco?! A ray-gun lamp does NOT constitute a grown up choice)(OK – I know it isn’t grown up, nor does it fit my country theme, but it is SO cool)(You know having a conversation with yourself in brackets is a sure sign of madness don’t you?!)(Yes, I know, bit odd isn’t it, but then again so am I….I am finished now…)

I love the size of our bedroom, it is lovely and light with such huge windows, and I think even with a small budget it will soon be looking gorgeous – I just need to unpack those boxes first….after I have browsed some more pretty things obvs!

Love Miss Cisco XXX

I’d sway more towards just going for it with big bold floral prints. Love thos Yvonne Coomber prints, never heard of her before. They are gorgeous x

Gorgeous aren’t they! The pic is originals in a gallery in Exeter, but budget restrictions mean I might need to opt for a print this time!

Ooh, I love that rabbit lamp! Even after a year, our bedroom is still a tip as we’ve concentrated on the ‘public’ areas of the house first. The one thing I don’t like about this house is that our bedroom is a bit on the small side. My husband keeps threatening to relegate my large bookshelves to the garage! He’s a lovely man, but surely that’s grounds for divorce?!

Relegate him to the garage 😉 Luckily our lounge has massive built in bookshelves, but our bedroom has at least 12 guitars and a drum kit in it currently!

I love planning for rooms. My bedroom is a bit plain but that art work is gorgeous and would really brighten the place up.

We were still surrounded by moving boxes a year+ after moving, and our bedroom is still a dumping ground. My advice, sort it asap! I just need to take my own advice haha xx
