Camp Bestival Top Tips and Best Bits

We are delighted to be Official Camp Bestival bloggers again this year, and cannot wait for the end of July to roll around. This will be our third year at the festival and I thought I would round-up some tips and best bits advice from others who have been before too!

My personal top tips would be;

  1. Hire a trolley to get your gear onto site (if you haven’t got one of your own that is!). It is only a few minutes walk from car park to camping, but do that ten times carrying stuff and you will be worn out before you start!
  2. Bring a bucket for night time wees….no one needs to be wandering about with a small person at 3 am when they decide they need the toilet!
  3. Check out Penny’s amazingly complete packing list.
  4. Do not follow my lead when it comes to camping.
  5. Plan who are your MUST see acts (Buzzcocks, Slaves, and Kaiser Chiefs for us) then take a more relaxed approach the rest of the weekend. Some of my favourite bits in the past have been those little random activities that you stumble into when you are not looking for them – there really is magic around every corner – don’t miss it by being a schedule slave!

And my best bit would be seeing my kids having such a magical time, and having such a magical time with them. Yes, you also get to see some awesome bands, and whatever you do DO NOT MISS THE FINALE on the Sunday night – we didn’t see it the first year, but last year it totally blew our minds!

And what did my fellow Camp Bestival bloggers have to say:-

Mari from Mari’s World :- “My tip would be make sure you visit The Feast Collective as it is phenomenal, all street food but of very high and delicious standards”. Read her post on it here.

Rebecca from Munchies and Munchkins says ” I would suggest going into the Dingly Dell when your children become overwhelmed -say post Mr Tumble or if it gets too hot. The forest feels so utterly calm and cool. We love it there.”

Nadine from Juggle Mum has this to add “My top tip for CB is to book children’s activities (like wood carving) early as the slots go fast. We missed out by being too late on our second year – our first year we missed it completely – there was so much to take in! So when we went for the third year we made sure we got our kids names down as soon as the bookings opened. This was on the Friday so even if you get a Thursday ticket to get set up early you still can’t jump the queue!”

Viv from 76 Sunflowers is with me on the trolley front, but suggests bringing your own garden trug – she has a post here on her Top ten extras to take to Camp Bestival.

Kara from Chelsea Mamma suggests “If you need some time out Lizzie’s Walk is fabulous and there is a play park for the kids to run around in away from the crowds.”

If you are still undecided about whether to take the plunge and go to Camp Bestival with the family, I cannot recommend it highly enough as THE ultimate family festival – and believe me, I have been to a lot of festivals over the years. Camp Bestival truly is an utter delight for all ages.

    My oldest daughter is going and I am V. jealous. I think next year we will all go – I just need to find an extra pair of hands to help me put the tent up, too tricky to do it on my own! Glad you enjoyed the finale lat year, my cousin is one half of Basement Jaxx. My older one went to watch on the Sunday and said it was ‘awesome’ (sic). Are you noticing a theme here? Note to self, must stop living vicariously through my kids…

    We had a fantastic time last year as newbies to CB another tip I would add is take your time, the place is enormous and it took us 1 day to figure it out. Have fun and thank you for including my food post, the Feast Collective really is a festival in itself
