A traditional Christmas table with a hint of rock’n’roll!

It is December tomorrow, so it is almost legitimate to start thinking all things Christmas. I am a day early as I wanted to join in a great competition over at Love Chic Living. The challenge is to choose the things you would like to dress your Christmas Table with from the wide selection available at Debenhams, and here are mine….

Christmas Table Ideas

For me the rich colours and strong patterns of bygone eras make me feel festive. They suit the darker days and roaring firelight.  My choices are quite bold and would hopefully create a dramatic look. I would love to tie the look together with a velvet tablecloth, either in black for a sophisticated look, or in a dark pink that matches the candlesticks for a pow of colour. I couldn’t resist the leopard print crackers for a bit of punk rock edge, and I would love to pile high the metal cake stand with tangerines and chocolates in their jewel coloured wrappers to create a gorgeous centrepiece. I would have several of the candlesticks running down the middle of the fabulous purple beaded table runner. I am not sure where I am putting the owl lights, or that they fit the theme totally, but you know, they are vintage look light up owls- who could resist!

The bejewelled butterflies, glitter reindeer and table sparkles add a bit of a glam rock twinkle to the table and will reflect all that flickering candlelight. And I adore the busy pattern of the Bloomsbury plates for popping homemade Florentines on to, while supping a chocolately rich red wine from the gorgeous John Rocha goblets. I am imagining myself taking my seat looking a little like Kate Moss at her The Beautiful and The Damned themed party, I am more likely to be  apron wearing flustered on the day itself, but hey ho, the table will be glam enough for the both of us!

Delia’s Florentines

If you fancy making your own Florentines, you won’t go far wrong if you follow Delia’s recipe. As you know I am a biscuit fiend (I even have a biscuit jingle) and these always look really Christmassy to me, with their red and green fruits and nuts and a yummy layer of chocolate, give me them over Xmas pud any day!

Do you decorate your table for Christmas? Do you have a new colour theme each year, just use the best plates for once or have family favourite decorations that get used every year?

I love your selection – very glamorous! I don’t normally dress my table for Christmas – apart from crackers – but this year I’m going to, I’ve bought a lovely red table runner so will look out for some more bits.

Mine is usually decorated by the kids, but it would be lovely to be a bit more glamourous one year!
