I am loving our new house still. A couple of weeks back I showed off my kitchen and this time I am sharing pictures of our lounge.
I love this room – the built in shelves and cupboards allow room for (almost) all our books and records, and are a great way of showing off random bits and bobs.
It is not quite finished yet – regular readers will know I am looking for the perfect rug, I am also on the look out for a new lamp for next to the sofa. I say new, I mean old. I want something that I can’t quite put into words but will know when I spot it in one of our local vintage warehouses.
We need a little more art for the walls. We have plenty, but the room can be quite dark and cold looking, so I want something to add a splash of colour to the expanse of white.
Another way we have bought colour in is with our stuff….treasures I call them, tat if you ask my teenager. I have mostly stuck to using our pink and red things – not a combo recommended by most colour wheels, but I like it! And I am undecided about the windows – we have gorgeous original shutters, which I don’t want to hide behind curtains, but may well swag something funky across the top of the pre-existing curtain pole as it looks odd being bare.
I love that the room naturally lends itself to dividing into two areas. One end has sofas and a fireplace, the telly and a generally grown up feel. The other end has brightly coloured toys and a video game area. When the kids are in bed ‘my’ end of the lounge is free of kid stuff, and if I leave the other end in darkness I can’t even see it!
It also opens via a large arch straight into the kitchen diner. I was never a fan of open plan, but am finding this almost version of it works very well. The kitchen is round the corner – so you can’t see the washing up if you have been too lazy to do it – but while cooking I am close enough to intervene in sibling battles before blood is shed.
I love this room, and look forward to continuing adding to it and shifting things about as we get to know it better,
Love Miss Cisco XXX

It’s a gorgeous lounge and I’m delighted you’ve found a home you love after all the hassle it took.
Hopefully catch up at Britmums ?

Haha not always, but so far I am in the new house honeymoon phase where I keep tidying up, which is both most unlike me and pointless in a house with 3 kids!

Oh, and sadly no Britmums for me this year – OH is co-running a Ska/Punk festival that weekend so I will be on kid duty. I am doing BlogOn Win and hopefully Blogfest tho 🙂

It has a great feel, a loved home. I like your stuff, lots of quirky things and so many books. (You have a cheeky teenager, I bet she has lots of tut) I like going to friends houses and seeing their personality. I hope you find what your looking for, for that splash of colour. Maybe get the kids to make some hand/footprints art and frame them.
Thanks, lovely post. x

Yes, had thought about getting a big canvas and involving the kids – be personal that way wouldn’t it!
It’s looking seriously organised for a new home. Very impressive!

I love it! It’s much more tidy than my place, but I’m really happy to see a normal home for a change – it kinda depresses me when I keep seeing all these beautifully styled homes that look like from catalogue lol! I just wish my boy’s toys would stay so nicely organised for more than half an hour any time lol!

If you don’t love your living room you will never feel relaxed in your home. After all we spend most of the time in the living room. Very welcoming your living room indeed.
