All Shook Up – Elvis at the 02

As regular readers may remember, it was my birthday at the weekend. The day itself was a bit of a wash out as the smallest woke up being sick, tho he did say he would get me my presents as soon as he had stopped! This meant instead of spending the day at a festival as planned, we had a quiet day at home. I was still spoilt with lovely gifts and a huge cake, but it wasn’t quite the day we had in mind!

Luckily my real birthday treat had already happened the weekend before, when my best mate since school took me to the Elvis at the 02 exhibition as a birthday treat. I have always loved Elvis. In his early years he was handsome and shook the world awake by bringing rock’n’roll to the masses. In his later years I adored the kitchness and the showmanship.

A visit to Graceland is on my bucket list, but until money allows, this exhibition with many artefacts from his famous home is the next best thing. I LOVED IT. The cars, the costumes, the gold telephones. All of it. Every last little bit made me smile. And as it was my birthday (well, nearly) I could justify a splurge in the gift shop of joy and came home laden with all sorts of awesomeness – fridge magnets of the highest tacky order, an Elvis christmas bauble, Graceland glasses, a very cool t-shirt and a few other bit and bobs of utter brilliance.

Anyway, here are just a few of my hundreds of photographs….you aren’t allowed to use a flash in the exhibition, but I did my best without!

Such a fabulous day out – followed up by a boat trip down the Thames – a perfect birthday treat!

How exciting! I love the cars, especially the pink one, absolutely stunning. I also really like the flares at the bottom of your post, so funky and exactly the kind of thing I think of Elvis wearing!

I also loved Elvis. Back in the days (about 1965) when you could go in the cinema at lunch time and leave when they closed Wendy and I took our sandwiches and drinks and watched Love Me Tender three times through. Loved it xx

My dad was a huge Elvis fan. He would have loved this. When ever I have any Elvis it makes me think of my dad sitting in the car with the windows down and his elbow on the window ledge singing along

Elvis isn’t my thing, but I do appreciate a good exhibition. Theres’s always something special about the history and stories surrounding iconic figures. The river boat up the Thames is something I’d love to do! Happy belated birthday!

Wow what an amazing exhibition! I make Elvis Authentic Costumes for Elvis Presley Tribute Artists in the UK, and suprisingly many non tributes by the costumes I make to make their own Elvis themed room!
